ABOUT WPN
Our Roots in Winemaking
Wine Packaging by Naylor was founded with a winemaker’s insight and a packaging expert’s precision. That winemaker was Richard “Dick” Naylor, who began making wine in the late 1960s while working in York, PA, as president of Corbox, Inc., a local and leading corrugated packaging company.
In 1975, Dick and his wife Audrey planted their first grapes in Stewartstown, Pennsylvania. By 1978, they opened Naylor Wine Cellars—the first modern winery in York County and one of the earliest in the state. Over four decades, Naylor Wine Cellars helped build the foundation for Pennsylvania’s now-thriving wine industry.
But Dick didn’t just stop at wine. After experiencing the challenges of shipping fragile bottles, he used his packaging background to invent the Ultimate Wine Cradle™—a patented corrugated insert that protects bottles during shipping while offering sustainability and savings. This innovation led to the launch of Wine Packaging by Naylor, a company rooted in the needs of real winemakers.
A Legacy of Innovation & Industry Leadership
Richard Naylor’s contributions extended well beyond his own winery. As a teacher at Penn State, an active leader in Wine America, The Pennsylvania Wine Association, and the American Wine Society, Dick championed both grape growing and education. In 2013, he received the AWS Award of Merit, joining the ranks of Robert Mondavi and Konstantin Frank.
Supporting that vision was Ted Potter, Naylor’s longtime winemaker, who played a vital role in vineyard stewardship and wine production. Ted’s practical knowledge and hands-on commitment helped elevate the quality and consistency of Naylor wines over the years.
Together, Dick and Ted’s pioneering work helped legitimize and expand the wine industry in Pennsylvania—mentoring growers, sharing best practices, and setting high standards for both production and community.
The Future of Wine Packaging – Led by Experience
Today, Wine Packaging by Naylor is led by Dan Potter, son of Ted Potter, and a next-generation agriculturalist with deep roots in the beverage industry. Dan brings decades of experience in vineyard management, sustainable growing practices, and operational logistics to the business.
Under Dan’s leadership, the company continues to:
- Manufacture and distribute the Ultimate Wine Cradle™
- Serve wineries, distilleries, cideries, and craft beverage brands across the U.S.
- Expand its line of eco-conscious, high-performance packaging solutions
- Provide real-time support and insight for clients from someone who’s worked in the field
Dan’s approach reflects the same core principle that inspired the company’s founding: protecting what matters, from production floor to customer doorstep.
